The chin bar protects your face and jaw in a fall, and the closed shell keeps out wind, dust, rain and insects. It is also quieter at speed than an open face helmet.
Look for the SLS mark, a snug fit with no pressure points, a clear scratch-free visor and a strap that closes firmly. A double visor (built-in sun visor) is useful for bright daytime riding.

Full face helmets with the SLS certification mark are sold and used on Sri Lankan roads. Rules can change, so always check the latest traffic police guidance and make sure your helmet carries the SLS mark.
A full face helmet gives more protection because of the chin bar, so it is the better choice for highways and longer rides. An open face helmet is lighter and cooler for short trips in town.
